Lokka Abaya National park is the only national park in Sidama Region. Its found 348 km from the capital Addis Ababa and 73 km from the region capital Hawassa. Covers an area of 500 km2 the park a has complex topography which includes hills, uplands, plains, lake, grasslands, wetlands, gorges, riverine forest lands, valleys, etc. There is no specific rainfall and temperature in the Lokka Abaya National park area. There are two rainy seasons; July to September (heavy rains) and February to April (light rains) the remaining months of the year are sunny. The park system also keeps important waterbodies like Abaya Lake and Bilate River. African Wild dog, lion, greater kudu, Cheetah and many bird species can be easily spotted.
