Birdlife of Wondogenet

Ethiopia is a haven for birdwatchers. With more than 982 species of birds, the country is one of the top birding site in Africa. The Sidama region around wondogent host some of the rare and endemic bird species of Ethiopia. Ethiopia has recorded 25 bird species that are found only in its territory. From this 25 endemic bird species more than 15 Ethiopian endemic birds are found around Wondogenet. Prince rospel`s turaco, wattle ibis, yellow fronted parrot are some among a number of endemic birds around Wondogenet. The Prince rospel`s turaco has a special place among the Sidama people and referred as a symbol of beauty. In addition to the endemic birds, there are several common birds such as Arrow-Marked Babbler, Africana Cetril, African Pied Wagtail, African Rirefinach, Abyssinian Long-Eared Owl, Abyssinian Ground Thrush, Abyssinian Woodpecker, Abyssinian Long-Claw, Abyssinian Slaty Flycatcher, Augar Buzzard around Wondogenet.
